It’s started again!
I’ve decided that I really need to get back into shape again after living comfortably for the past year or so I’ve got to shift those lbs and get fit and healthy again. I spent the weekend cleaning up and making space in my garage for the treadmill to come back out to play and have been hitting it for 30 minutes a day over the weekend to break myself into things gently, or at least that’s what I thought.
Tonight was my first real session with the timing/distance gear set up and I’m seriously disappointed in how unfit and overweight I’ve let myself become, it’s quite scary when I look back on previous stats (which weren’t that great to begin with!)
I used to clock up 3 miles in an average time of 26 minutes
Today I clocked up 1.8 miles in 30 minutes
Not great at all, but to be expected considering how much extra weight I’m carrying at the moment. It’s a start at least and that’s the most important thing, and doing intervals, which is what I was doing, is the best way to build the stamina back up and burn off the unwanted lbs.
I’m going to try and get back to being able to hold a ten minute mile over 10 miles and see if I can achieve that, though it make take some time and a lot of swearing along the way 🙂
And just for posterity here’s a couple of pictures!
After 10 miles of pain doing the Great South in 2009 in roughly 1 hour 50 minutes (slightly less but I can’t remember exactly)
After doing 6 miles for Sport Relief in 2010 in 58 minutes
Wish me luck!
