If you’ve spent any amount of time on my blog you will no doubt notice that I spend a lot of my time writing about parkrun so I should really write something about what parkrun is and my love affair with it.

What is parkrun?
Well to coin a phrase it’s much more than just a run in the park! parkrun is a free, weekly, 5km timed run that happens in hundreds of locations around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of every ability, regardless of age/sex/race/colour/religion/politics/etc are encouraged to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; all are welcomed.

How does it work?
Well it’s simple really, you sign up on their website, print out your personal barcode, turn up at an event, run 5k, scan your barcode at the end, wait for your result. Repeat every Saturday, or parkrunday as it is known to regulars.
